Bungay Bash Rehearsals

Rehearsals for the Bungay Bash have gone well this week. A lot of work has gone into the graphics and the lighting - well done Dave M and Nigel - it also gave us the opportunity to get some rehearsal pics and close up shots for the DVD. Here are a few pics.

David Wright Volume 2 "Best of & Rarities" to be releasd in September 2011.

AD Music will be releasing a second David Wright "Best of" which is also being described as a "rarities" CD, containing some older reworked tracks, plus some music that has been released on download or for other compilations, plus some new material. This album is specifically targeting our New World Music distributors "new age" fan-base, but I'm sure em fans of my more melodic, drifting space music style will enjoy it. Here are details of the album.

2009 re-recording of a popular track from 1989 release "Reflections".

Digital remaster of popular track from now deleted 1991 CD Between Realities.

2011 track written with Neil "Geigertek" Fellowes. A version is available on the Bungay Bash limited edition CDr for 4th June, but this is a reworked and remixed version.

Callisto for Bungay Bash

So the Bungay Bash moves ever closer............and today we decided that we would also perform a Callisto space music set to open the evening proceedings. Seems logical as Neil and I are there and we also want to get some live film for the Callisto DVD - yes, there will finally be a Callisto DVD, and a Code Indigo DVD and a David Wright DVD. Well, assuming all goes well with the filming at The Bungay Bash that is!! Seems quite strange to be performing as three separate space music acts, although I guess you can't call Code Indigo space music, more instrumental rock I suppose. So, performing three very different styles of instrumental music, but it should be fun. Full details can be found on the AD Instrumental Music website concert page and tickets are a very reasonable £10:75 plus postage for an all day event, can't be bad, eh?!

Schallwelle Awards 2011

Back home after a great time in Germany.

Stayed with Klaus Hoffmann-Hoock and wife Dagi at their lovely "Mill" near Sonsbech. Arrived Thursday and had a very chilled time - just what the doctor ordered!

Schallwelle on the Saturday was great, nominated three times, twice for Callisto in best international album and best international artist, and I was also nominated in best international artist category. However, no awards this time round, but nice to be "in the mix" and had a really good day chatting to fans and other musicians.

Great to catch up with Robert Schroeder, amongst other, whose music I've always admired. Due to a problem with the first act not arriving until late, I was asked to perform first, and I think the set went down well - I enjoyed it and the audience wanted more, so a good sign. Played 20 minutes space music from forthcoming new solo album plus a new version of Rysheara and short space music version of Walking with Ghosts as encore.

Many thanks to everyone involved in the awards, especially those behind the scenes.

Brian Wilson Concert

Just got 2 tickets for the Brian Wilson concert in London in September - can't wait!! Easily one of the greatest composers of our generation, his recent albums "Smile", "Lucky Old Sun" and "Gershwin Reimagined" are simply outstanding. Even though I compose instrumental music and space music, Brian's influence on my music has been quite profound, and his music has been a part of my life since I was just 12 years old. Rock on..................

David Wright nominated in Schallwelle Electronic Music Awards Best International category

Well I missed this when getting so excited about the Callisto nomination, which, by the way, is for NYX in the Best album category, but I've been nominated in the Best International Artist category - second time having won the award 2 years ago.......................

Callisto nominated in Schallwelle electronic music awards

Well, here's a pleasant surprise, Callisto have been nominated in the Schallwelle Electronic Music awards, presumably for "Best International electronic music Album" or "Best International Artist". I'm going to be there anyway as one of the three artists performing. But I was also scheduled to be one of the presenter/orators, but obviously can't be now because I've been nominated. Shame, but it does give me more time to work on the space music for the event.

So anyway, well done also Dave Massey and not forgetting Neil (Geigertek) Fellowes because the last two Callisto concerts (and future Callisto concerts if he behaves) include Neil on stage for Dave Massey, who as we all know, "doesn't do live". Both those concerts were well received and I think it likely that the concerts may have featured in some peoples thinking when they voted.

So we'll see how we do, but however it turns out, it's nice to know that we've been nominated and people thought Callisto good enough to vote for.

So "Thanks from Callisto" to all who did vote!

Sci fi soundtrack for Matt Howarth story - update

I received the first draft of Matt Howarth's sci-fi story, and an enjoyable read it is too! Plenty of ideas for music and titles and I will be starting work on that soon. Maybe I will perform some of the ideas at the up and coming Schallwelle Music awards in March, we shall see. I'm not going to give away anything at the moment, aside from saying its about an earth colony on a far off world in the future, mans first colony in fact. That's all I'm gonna say for now and I'm looking forward to putting together an evocative and descriptive space music soundtrack to accompany the book, which will be on the CD as an e-book/pdf. Steve Barnes - Invisible Landscapes

Spent the afternoon completing the mastering of the forthcoming Divine Matrix  album "Invisible Landscapes". A cool chill out music album from Steve Barnes pseudonym. Should be available in March 2011.

New Code Indigo album?

I keep being asked; "When will the next Code Indigo album be released"?
Truth is, I don't know! But I'm really hoping it'll be end of 2011 early 2012. We're hoping to get together during 2011 to start recording instrumental music for an album that already has at title; "A Different Colour", but as yet has no defined theme or direction, mainly because it is still very much in early development. And all Code Indigo albums have always had a fair amount of discussion on theme and direction before the music really got going. And even then, things tended to change.

Biggest problem is that band members are spread around the UK doing many other space music projects, and while we all really do enjoy working together as Code Indigo, sometime the practicalities of meeting up just get in the way.

So the plan is to get together during the early part of the year, which we've got to do anyway to prepare for the Bungay Bash, and get things moving. Hopefully something will be on the go soon, and we'll have good news for the Code Indigo fans with withdrawal symptoms!

For those who may not have been aware, there is an exclusive Code Indigo track "Gaia" on the 2009 elive sampler, available from Groove, plus an exclusive remix of the awesome "Eden to Chaos" from Timecode.

Bungay Bash

Great to know that the Bungay Bash is going ahead on June 4th 2011 and hopefully we'll put on an event every year at the same sort of time, later spring early Summer. Suffolk and Norfolk are such lovely places that time of year, so hopefully we can attract fans from outside the area as well as within to come to the event.

The event is being held in conjunction with a beer festival, so should be a lot of fun. We're testing the waters with this event, hence it being a mainly AD line up of local instrumental music artists. If things go well then well make it an annual event and widen the net as far as acts are concerned. However, I'm thinking that this should be an annual charity event, simply because with the best will in the world, we can't make enough on the tickets to pay for acts to come unless we make the ticket prices high, which we know from experience keeps people away. So, and I'm thinking out loud here it has to be said, if we make it an "expenses only" event and ensure artists are wined, dined and accommodated and give the profit to a Charity, then it makes it easier for future events. It's only an idea, but one that I'm giving serious thought to!

As to performing, I'm looking forward to sorting out a set of new space music for the event.  I'll be performing solo in the afternoon and with Code Indigo in the evening. Rock on!!

In Search of Silence CD for 2011 release

With a number of instrumental music projects already on the go for 2011, pleased to report that my next studio album is going to be called "In Search of Silence". It's actually inspired a quite stunning photograph I saw last year, and when the license has been approved for its use, I'll upload a copy for you all to see.

In fact, originally I wanted to call the new space music album "Turn Down The Silence", but it didn't quite fit the cover image, hence the change to "In Search of Silence". I'll probably use the original album title idea as a track title instead.

Musically, I'll be looking to do something different again, and with other projects on the go as well, it'll be interesting to see where "Silence" goes. It'll certainly be all new material though, and I'll be calling on my guitar loving friends Andy Lobban and Nigel Turner-Heffer to add lead, bass and acoustic guitar, and I may also be looking at other acoustic instruments as well, we shall see.

The Trinity project to start recording in January 2011

Pleased to report that I'll be working with my good friends and Code Indigo electronic music colleagues Neil "Geigertek" Fellowes and Nigel Turner-Heffer on a brand new instrumental music project under the name "The Trinity". We'll be writing and recording good old relaxing instrumental music in the best tradition of gentle space music and there is a whole series planned for release through the new age music distributor new world music. The first four will be "Music for Angels", Tranquil Spirits", "Angels and Moonbeams" and "Serenity". We hope to have the first of these ready for release by June and will be aiming for at least two to released in 2011, maybe  more. We'll see how things go. More news to be posted here in the new year.

Walking with Ghosts to be remastered for 2011 re-release

One of my most popular instrumental music albums "Walking with Ghosts" is being reissued in 2011 in 24 bit digitally remastered format. Both AD Music and our new age distributor New World have sold out so another repress is required. As the artwork details needed updating, I decided to go back to the original tapes and remaster with current mastering technology. In truth, I was always quite happy with most aspects of the original space music album, so there won't be massive changes or new remixes or anything like that, I'll simply be looking to improve the overall mastering quality and tweak a few things here and there. Another project I'm looking forward to starting in 2011.

Sci fi book space music soundtrack

I've been in discussion with American writer Matt Howarth who's completing a new sci fi story that I'll write the space music sound track for. It's an interesting concept; the book will be available as a pdf on the electronic music soundtrack CD, so, at this stage, beyond having a very basic overview of the story, I don't have character or plot details yet, or even a working title, so, can't really start work on the space music until I do.

But really looking forward to starting work on this project and I do have some ideas including following a very "film soundtrack" style score incorporating recurring themes and traditional electronica music atmospherics as well.

I certainly won't be trying for a Vangelis "Blade Runner" or Hans Zimmer "Last Samurai" style soundtrack, but as both are amongst my all time favorite film soundtracks, it's a fair bet to assume I'll be seeking insprirartion from those two awesome works.

As and when more information becomes available on this instrumental music project, I'll post details here.

Blizzards in Bungay

Having succumbed to a dose of flu just a few days before Christmas, it at least gave me the opportunity to catch up on some outstanding blog postings working from my laptop looking out over a snow storm over Bungay!

But before I start though, I'd like to wish all my family, friends and fans a very, very merry Christmas and prosperous new year. See you in 2011.

Welcome to my blog

Going to attempt to write a daily blog - not sure how successful that will be, but I'll give it a go. Set this blog up a while ago so about time I made use of it. I'll probably expand a little on items the are feature on the AD blog that are relevant to me, and will do some product reviews on items used in the studio.
